Um segue a bordo como passageiro. Vai visitar os avós que não conhece numa terra longínqua. O outro não tem outro remédio senão acompanhar o pai, tripulante do navio, pois não tem nem família nem morada certa, onde ficar.

São as únicas crianças a bordo, por isso, é natural que se tenham entendido rapidamente. Entretém-se com o que podem, procurando não atrapalhar as manobras de navegação, brincando ao que conseguem, com o que têm à mão. 

A tripulação ora os enxota quando há mais para fazer, ora se enche de uma infinita paciência e lhes vai ensinando nós, a coser velas, ou a pescar, quando as tarefas a bordo o permitem. Mas o que eles querem mesmo é subir ao cesto da gávea e isso ainda não conseguiram convencer ninguém a fazer.

Esperam convencer o capitão a deixá-los subir, num dia em que o vento sopre manso e o mar esteja de feição!

One is on board as a passenger. He's going to visit the grandparents he doesn't know in a faraway land. The other has no choice but to accompany his father, a crew member on the ship, as he has neither family nor a fixed address to stay in.

They are the only children on board, so it's natural that they got along quickly. They entertain themselves with what they can, trying not to interfere with the navigation maneuvers, playing with whatever they can find, with whatever they have at hand.

The crew sometimes shoos them away when there's more to do, and other times, filled with infinite patience, they teach them knots, how to sew sails, or how to fish, when the tasks on board allow it. But what they really want is to climb into the crow's nest, and they haven't yet managed to convince anyone to let them.

They hope to convince the captain to let them up, on a day when the wind is gentle and the sea is calm!
