Time out #16 Norte de Portugal | North of Portugal

As férias foram boas, obrigado. Mais de 2.000 km de carro. Muitos km a pé. Centenas de degraus em várias escadas. Vários funiculares e elevadores. Uma aventura, portanto.

Vacations were very nice, thank you. More than 2.000 km by car. Many km walking. Hundreds of steps in a lot staircases. Several funiculars and elevators. An adventure!

Começamos em Conímbriga, ainda no centro de Portugal. Já tínhamos estado perto em 2022. Devia ter trazido os Romanos, mas não tínhamos programado esta paragem e olha...

We started out in Conímbriga, in the center region. We already had been near here in 2022. I Should've had broght the Romans, but we didn't planned this stop...

Seguimos então mais para norte, com destino a Amarante, a nossa primeira paragem. Encontrámos uma cidade linda, junto ao rio, com edifícios imponentes, de que não estávamos à espera. Passeámos junto ao rio a pé e de barco e jantámos numa varanda sobre o rio. Uma maravilha!

And then we head north, to Amarante, our first stay. We found a beautiful city, by the river with major buildings that we not expected. We walked along the river, rode a boat in the river and had dinner in a balcony over the river. Just marvellous!

 

Depois de deixar Amarante fomos mais para norte, rumo a Guimarães, o berço da nação. Descobrimos uma cidade giríssima, de edifícios bem mantidos e muito pitoresca, por manter ainda traços vincadamente medievais. Adorámos!

After leaving Amarante, we headed further to north, to Guimarães, the nation craddle. We found a cute town, with well maitained buildings and very scenic with it's medieval features. we loved it!

 

E depois? Depois lá fomos um pouquinho mais para cima. Braga foi o destino. Confesso que esperava mais da cidade. Meio desorganizada, meio caótica. Vinha mal habituada depois de Amarante e Guimarães.. O melhor de Braga? A fantástica surpresa da Anita, que nos ofereceu uma série de figuras playmobil! Obrigado Anita!

And then? Then we went further north. Braga was the destination. I confess that i expected more of this city. Kind of desorganized and chaotic. Guess i was usued to Amarante e Guimarães... The best of Braga? We had a wonderful surprise from Anita, that offered us several playmobil!! Thank you!

 

E ainda subimos mais um pouquinho, até ao país vizinho, para experimentar mergulhar nas águas bem quentes das Termas de Los Lobios. Que experiência gira!

And we went further north, until Spain, to experince the hot waters of Termas de Los Lobios. What a great experience!

Ainda conseguimos visitar Viana do Castelo. Adorámos visitar o Navio Hospital Gil Eanes e recomendamos o museu do traje de Viana. E porque ir tanto para Norte cansou, girámos a bússola e terminámos as férias bem a Sul, para uns dias de praia, na nossa praia favorita: Cacela Velha.

We still got to visit Viana do Castelo. We simply loved to visit Gil Eanes the Hospital Ship and we recommend the Museu do Traje. And as heading so much north was tiring we changed the compass and ended up vacations in the south, for some beach days, at our favourite beach: Cacela Velha.
