A cidade cresceu | City as grown

 

A cidade cresceu e novos desafios surgem. A pequena vila com poucas centenas de habitantes, onde os poucos conflitos que aconteciam, se resolviam numa briga de rua, seguida de uma visita ao bar, é hoje uma cidade considerável, com mais de um milhar de habitantes. Sem falar dos quantos forasteiros que por aqui passam a caminho de qualquer lado, ou procurando trabalho.

A pequena vila em que um xerife era mais do que suficiente para resolver uma ou outra questão com os índios, ou brigas de homens feitos estimulados pelo álcool, ou ainda resolver pequenos furtos de bens e animais, tornou-se naquela cidade em que o xerife precisa de ajudantes. Os crimes já não são apenas pequenos furtos. Há mortes que precisam de ser investigadas, há ameaças constantes e armas que circulam de mão em mão. 

É urgente repor a dignidade e a segurança da cidade, por isso, os habitantes mais ricos, após uma delicada reunião, decidiram financiar a contratação de 2 ajudantes de xerife e não descartaram a hipótese de mais contratações. Para já estes 3 têm por missão patrulhar as ruas da cidade, pôr cobro ao tráfico de armas e antever situações de conflito e actuar de forma preventiva.

Daqui a uns meses o conselho dos ricos reunirá novamente e avaliará como estão a correr as coisas. Se necessário for, novas contratações serão feitas. A cidade precisa de recuperar a sua paz, segurança e dignidade!

The city grew, and new challenges came with it. The small village with a few hundred inhabitants, where the few conflicts that occurred were resolved in a street fight followed by a visit to the bar, is now a considerable city with more than a thousand inhabitants. Not to mention the many outsiders who pass by on their way to anywhere, or looking for work, or just looking for some trouble.

The small village where a sheriff was more than enough to resolve the occasional issue with the Indians, or fights between grown men fueled by alcohol, or even petty thefts of goods and animals, has become a city where the sheriff needs deputies. Crimes are no longer just petty thefts. There are deaths that need to be investigated, constant threats, and weapons circulating from hand to hand.

It is urgent to restore the dignity and security of the city; therefore, the wealthier inhabitants, after a delicate meeting, decided to finance the hiring of two deputies and did not rule out the possibility of hiring more. For now, these three have the mission of patrolling the city streets, putting an end to arms trafficking, and anticipating conflict situations and acting preventively.

In a few months, the council of the wealthy will meet again and assess how things are going. If necessary, new hires will be made. The city needs to regain its peace, security, and dignity!
